It’s correct that you can study a lot about ‘music’ by going to university to get a music degree. Nonetheless, if you go to college to get a music degree for the sole purpose of creating it in the music market, you are pretty much assured to fail due to the fact:
Most music courses do not cover the particular topic of ‘how to create a music career’. Even if you take classes about music business, they will only present you with a common model of how the music company performs. They will NOT show you specifically how to construct a effective profession for yourself (by keeping your individual goals in mind). In fact, there are tons of musicians who graduate from major music universities only to comprehend that they are nevertheless clueless when it comes to in fact earning a living by way of music. If you go to university with the intention of acquiring into the music business enterprise with a degree, you will ‘at best’ find out a lot about music – but finish up back at square a single in terms of building a music career. Most persons will be happy to give out ‘expert’ suggestions or conventional wisdom even when they genuinely have no authority to do so. Usually speaking, these folks are sincere in wanting to assist you, but because they have by no means achieved anything important in the music sector, their assistance is more most likely to send you down the incorrect path than to lead you toward success.
Contemplate this: Asking individuals for music profession suggestions (when they have under no circumstances basically succeeded in the music business) is like training for a marathon with a trainer who hasn’t run a mile in his life or asking your dentist for legal assistance. Furthermore, asking suggestions from musicians who attempted to succeed in music (and failed) is equally as harmful for your music profession. Despite the fact that these people today are completely willing to inform you how you should really create your music profession, they do not seriously have the authority to do so – they will only lead you down the similar path they took (which ended in failure).
