Social media marketing is more significant than ever, with visual social media taking the lead on the traditional text-primarily based channels. The majority of social media platforms utilise imagery and videos to increase their content, even so the most powerful way to make the most of visual marketing and advertising is by way of social media channels that produce imagery and videos specifically.
With regards to image primarily based social media, there seem to be two distinct platforms, which seem related in supplying identical solutions. These two solutions are Instagram and Pinterest.
We will go over the most important points of interest for both platforms, and see how Instagram and Pinterest compare. Consequently, hopefully operating out which visual platform would be most beneficial to increase your brand.
Customers
Pinterest is a single of the fastest growing social media networks, at present weighing in with roughly 70 million typical customers. Also, Pinterest is distinctive in offering an audience that is predominantly female at a majority of roughly 68%, with the biggest gender distinction of any other social media channel. Pinterest customers also have a tendency to be slightly older in general.
In comparison, Instagram has a phenomenal 200 million active and frequent users, with approximately 45 million photographs shared and 1 billion photos “liked” every day. Males and females are extra evenly represented on the platform. The application is also most well known with younger customers, and has the same core demographic of 18-34 year olds as Pinterest.
Engagement
As far as user engagement, Instagram far outweighs the engagement rate of Pinterest, possibly due to the fact that Instagram has over double the quantity of active users. In addition, Instagram’s user engagement has more than 50 occasions the engagement rate of Facebook, as effectively as 20 occasions the engagement of Twitter, according to recent research.
Nonetheless, as far as accessibility goes for each Instagram and Pinterest, Instagram does seem to be a lot more tough to access, as the platform is only at present available by way of a telephone application. Even though Instagram makes it doable to view the web site on line on a computer system, you are restricted in what you can do on the computer.
Content
The major distinction is in the content material you can generate onto your private and enterprise Pinterest and Instagram accounts. Instagram promotes original content material, and encourages customers to make photos that they can edit with filters and other photo altering tools on the application. Whereas to get real Instagram followers allows customers to curate other users’ content onto their own profiles as they wish, so extended as they keep the sources.
Also, if you wanted to upload content onto Pinterest, they give you the selection to Pin from outside internet sites, via the URL, or upload from content on your computer. Some outside web-sites also make their pictures in a position to be “Pinned” straight from their pages, and add a “hover-on” button, which appears when you pass your mouse over the image.
Linkbuilding
Linkbuilding is far extra very easily utilised on Pinterest. When you click on their photos, it requires you to the web page source. This also tends to make it a lot less difficult to upload written weblog articles from your internet site, as you can “Pin” the primary image from your web page, and add the description, so that the image hyperlinks back to the post.
Pinterest is a single of the primary social media channels that can generate the most referrals and hyperlinks to your web page, and studies have shown that the network generally generates additional referrals than Twitter, for example.
On Instagram, the photos are not in a position to have a hyperlink source when you click on them, either on the phone application or the internet site. Also, if you add a link into the description, you are only able to click on this on their phone application currently. This indicates that the channel doesn’t add to your enterprise as far as linkbuilding.
Winner
Both Instagram and Pinterest are common photo-primarily based platforms, with similar audiences who are interested in eye-catching, original content. Even so, for individuals who believe that they are inherently related, that is not entirely correct, as there are clear variations among them.
