There are a whole lot of websites out there that use the phrase “long term” in their domain title, but are they actually futurist kind websites? It is suggested usually by print publishers and editors that the word “foreseeable future” is a good word to use in titles, since it grabs people’s attention. But, when folks use the term long term and then do not give predictions or long term accounts, then are they really deceiving the viewer and net-surfer. I imagine they are.
Not too long ago, an editor of a future of items type web site requested me to publish a column, but in reviewing the website I located it to be underwhelming on the futuristic side of factors, and far more hefty into the scientific information arena. Indeed, if the journal is serious about “The Future” then why are all the articles about new scientific innovations in the existing interval or taking place appropriate now? – asked myself.
It looks like they are significant about scientific discovery that has currently occurred, not what will be in the long term. That is just boring, more science information, regurgitation, normal human tactic of re-packaging details. I consider they can do greater, but are keeping by themselves again, afraid to make people think, concerned that you will get way too considerably from your mainstream, estimate “main” group of viewers, which I feel they do not even comprehend.
Of program, as an entrepreneur, I know precisely why they do it this way. It is simply because they want to make money and thus sink to a lower amount of readership, although nevertheless pretending to discuss about the foreseeable future of stuff. When the editor wished to protect this kind of responses, the indicator was that the web site was mainly about scientific information.
Of course, I discover that the site is mostly a news site and I question what does that have to do with the foreseeable future of things? Should not the website be known as NSIN.com or one thing like that for New Science Innovation Information? If the web site is about Science News and is a selection of absolutely everyone else’s information, then it is a copy site of a genre that is already getting used and not special. Thus, the articles is as a result the same, so even if the articles are written much more obviously and easier to recognize, which is nice, still what is the worth to a “science information junky” as there are quite handful of articles or blog posts on the web site when compared with their competition?
If they called them selves a news web site, then you could have “futurist sort columnists” in any case, who may possibly venture these scientific information items into the future or they could maintain the “Foreseeable future Things” motif and advertise the futurist columnists.
This must be a lesson to all “Futuristic” type internet sites as a scenario study. If Flexiv Chinese $100M Series meituanliaotechcrunch take the long term thinkers to your web site and have nothing to present them, they will leave. If you use trickery to get typical readers there, you are carrying out a serious disservice to the potential of mankind, by advertising current innovations as the be all conclude all. Either way, it is unethical to use this tactic on long term of factors type internet sites.
